PHOENIX, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves Thursday placed All-Star reliever Mike Remlinger on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin.
Remlinger sustained the injury while pitching in the eighth
inning of Atlanta's 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on
Wednesday. He faced just one batter, yielding a leadoff single
to Tony Womack, before departing and ended up taking his first
loss of the season when Darren Holmes allowed Womack to score
the go-ahead run.
"It (the groin) was kind of aching and I really felt it when I tried to throw a fastball up and in," Remlinger said after the game.
The Braves, who own baseball's best record at 74-39 and a
17-game lead in the National League East, have yet to replace
Remlinger, their top lefthanded setup man, on the roster.
Named to the All-Star team for the first time in his 10-year
career, Remlinger has a 7-1 record with a 1.48 ERA in 58
appearances this season. He has a 25-8 record since being
acquired by the Braves in November 1998.
