BALTIMORE, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Orioles continued their home success against the Minnesota Twins Thursday and rookie Travis Driskill picked up his first win at Camden Yards.
Driskill went 6 2/3 innings and Chris Richard hit a two-run homer as the Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Twins
with a 4-1 victory.
The 31-year-old Driskill (8-5) gave up one run and seven hits to improve to 1-3 in seven starts in Baltimore. The righthander, who was just 2-5 with a 6.64 ERA in his last seven starts, walked two and struck out five.
The Orioles grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Tony
Batista led off with an infield hit and Richard followed by
driving Brad Radke's 0-1 pitch over the right field fence for
his third home run of the season.
Richard has hit safely in all nine games this season after
coming off the disabled list on July 31. He had hits in each of his last two games in 2001, but was placed on the 60-day
disabled list in March after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Yorkis Perez and Willis Roberts each recorded two outs before
Jorge Julio worked around a double and a walk in a scoreless
ninth for his 23rd save in 28 chances.
The Orioles improved to 21-4 at home against Minnesota since the start of the 1997 season. It was their first three-game sweep of Minnesota here since Aug. 17-19, 1999.
Radke (4-3) went seven innings, allowing four runs and five hits
with one strikeout as Minnesota suffered its fourth straight
loss, matching its longest skid of the season from April 8-11.
