Vick returns to practice for Falcons

GREENVILLE, S.C., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Second-year quarterback Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons is back on the practice field at Furman University after sitting out for a brief period.

Vick, the multi-talented former Virginia Tech All-American who became Atlanta's starter in the offseason when veteran Chris Chandler was waived, sat out practices on Monday after suffering a slight strain in his right, or non-passing shoulder. Vick said the problem might have originated in the rotator cuff.

He was limited to taking snaps and making handoffs mostly, but the coaching staff said he was very accurate when making long throws late in the day.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday that Vick threw crisply, but was not pleased with his accuracy.

"It didn't bother me too much," Vick said. "I can throw the ball just as well. I could have played (Monday), but the doctors wanted me to get treatment. There's no pain. I threw the ball real well (at times), with the same velocity. Nothing really changed. It was just a tweak and I'm getting over it. I expect to play Friday."

The Falcons open their preseason schedule at home Friday night against Jacksonville.
