Javy Lopez placed on DL

ATLANTA, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves Friday placed catcher Javy Lopez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

The move was retroactive to Thursday. Lopez is mired in a five-for-30 slump.

Lopez suffered a strained right AC joint on an attempted pickoff on July 21 at Philadelphia. He had played just three games since, going three for 10 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Overall, the 11-year veteran is hitting a career-low .238 with six homers and 35 RBI in 79 games.

To fill the roster spot, first-place Atlanta recalled catcher Steve Torrealba from Class AAA Richmond, where the 24-year-old Venezuelan was batting .234 with three homers and 18 RBI in 60 games.
