Detroit 5, Kansas City 2

DETROIT, July 25 (UPI) -- Robert Fick drove in three runs and Damion Easley and Randall Simon had solo homers Thursday to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals and a sweep of their three-game series.

Detroit's lone All-Star, Fick snapped a 2-2 tie with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and snuffed a Kansas City threat in the eighth. He caught a liner by Raul Ibanez in right field and doubled off Joe Randa at first, leaving Carlos Beltran stranded at third.

Tigers rookie starter Mike Maroth (3-3) pitched five scoreless innings before giving up two runs in the sixth.

Julio Santana, Jamie Walker and Juan Acevedo combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief. Acevedo earned his second save in as many days and 18th of the season.

Kansas City starter Miguel Asencio (2-3) yielded solo homers to Easley and Simon in the first and was relieved in the sixth after walking Bobby Higginson and allowing a single to Simon. Fick greeted reliever rookie reliever Ryan Bukvich with a sacrifice fly.
