SAN DIEGO, July 24 (UPI) -- Bobby Jones allowed five singles over eight innings and Mark Kotsay, Phil Nevin and Ron Gant homered Wednesday as the San Diego Padres routed the slumping Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-0.

Jones (7-5) did not walk a batter and struck out four. The veteran righthander has won four of his last five starts and allowed just four runs over his last 28 2/3 innings.

Kotsay, who had three hits and scored twice, staked Jones to a 1-0 lead in the fourth with his eighth home run of the season. Nevin delivered the big blow with a three-run blast in the seventh, his eighth of the season.

Gant added a two-run shot in the eighth inning, his 10th of the season.

The Padres lead the season series 7-5 and handed Los Angeles its 12th loss in 15 games.

Los Angeles starter Kazuhisa Ishii (12-6) lost for the fourth time in five decisions. The Japanese lefthander, who was outstanding in a start against the Padres on April 12, allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five.
