Cleveland 5, Kan. City 2 (2nd, 10 inn.)

KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 20 (UPI) -- Ellis Burks drove in all five of his team's runs with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning and a three-run shot in the 10th Saturday night as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals, 5-3, to gain a split of their doubleheader.

Kansas City's nine-game winning streak came to an end.

Prior to Burks' second homer, the Indians were none for 12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 runners, leaving the bases loaded in the seventh and ninth innings.

It was the 21st career two-homer game for Burks, whose five RBI matched a Cleveland season high.

The Indians, who ended a five-game losing streak, got a bad break in the top of the 10th when Eddie Perez had to stop at third on Omar Vizquel's ground-rule double. It appeared Perez would have scored easily had the ball not bounced into the right field stands.

But Brad Voyles (0-2) grooved a 2-2 fastball to Burks and paid for it as the Indians' designated hitter blasted a long home run that landed in the fountains beyond the left field fence.

Paul Shuey (3-0), the third of four Cleveland pitchers, tossed a scoreless ninth for the win.

Bob Wickman recorded his 20th save, despite yielding a run-scoring single to pinch hitter Joe Randa in the 10th.
