Detroit 66; New York 63

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 10 (UPI) -- Rookie Swin Cash scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Wednesday afternoon as the Detroit Shock stunned New York, 66-63, beating the Liberty for the first time in almost two years.

Barbara Farris added 14 points for the Shock, who had lost five straight games to the Liberty since their last win on Aug. 9, 2000.

Also, the Shock won for just the second time in eight games under new Coach Bill Laimbeer, who took over for the fired Greg Williams

last month.

Crystal Robinson had 17 points and Tari Phillips added 14 for the Liberty, who have lost their last four road games.

Detroit led, 28-22, at halftime, and increased their lead to as many as 13 points when Cash sank a pair of free throws with 16:16 left for a 37-24 advantage. But the Liberty chipped away at the lead, cutting the advantage to 54-50 with two free throws by Tamika Whitmore with 5:16 left.

Farris answered with a layup and later sank two free throws to increase the advantage to 58-50. New York twice cut the lead to two points in the final minute, the last coming on a free throw by Phillips with 31 seconds left.

Ayana Walker accounted for the final margin on a free throw with 27 seconds left and the Liberty were unable to get off a three-point shot.
