A native of nearby Lakeland, Nemechek became the first driver to win a Busch series race from the pole at Daytona since Dale Earnhardt in 1982.

Kevin Lepage was third, his best-ever result at the 2 1/2-mile tri-oval and top performance since taking over for the injured Jeff Purvis.

Jason Keller and Jamie McMurray completed the top five. Johnny Sauter finished sixth, his best performance in 14 races, and was followed by Mike McLaughlin, Jimmy Spencer, Kevin Grubb and Stacy Compton.

Jack Sprague carried the points lead into the race but finished 28th and fell to third in the standings, 45 points behind Biffle and six in back of Keller.
