PHILADELPHIA, July 2 (UPI) -- Jeromy Burnitz knocked in three runs and Timo Perez had three hits Tuesday night as the New York Mets posted a 12-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
With a game-time temperature of 95 degrees, the Mets started quickly, scoring five times in the first two innings as they returned to the .500 mark (41-41).
A disappointment this season who entered the game hitting just .211, Burnitz had an RBI double in the fifth and drove in two more runs in the ninth with a single that gave New York a 9-4 lead.
Perez went 3-for-5 with an RBI single for the Mets, who had 15 hits, including at least one from each starter.
Mets starter Pedro Astacio (8-3) labored through six innings, allowing four runs and nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
All-Star Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer and knocked in four runs for Philadelphia, which is in last place in the National League East, 3 1/2 games behind New York.
Philadelphia starter Terry Adams (4-6) was roughed up for six runs and eight hits in five innings.
