The top of the lineup did all the damage for Texas as the first four hitters went 7-for-13 and accounted for all the runs and RBI. Leadoff batter Tim Moss went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Omar Quintanilla was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

The Longhorns scored four times in the fourth inning for a 7-2 lead. Quintanilla delivered an RBI single and another run scored on an error by center fielder Sam Fuld. Reininger followed with a two-run homer off a 3-1 pitch from Cardinal starter Tim Cunningham (10-3).

Texas starter Alan Bomer (11-3), a fourth-round draft pick of the New York Yankees, allowed four runs and six hits in six innings.

Closer Huston Street pitched two innings and allowed one run and one hit to notch his 12th save, adding to his school freshman record.
