Mikaelian defeats Poutchek in finals

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 16 (UPI) -- Top seed Marie-Gaianeh Mikaelian of Switzerland defeated second-seeded Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus, 6-6, 6-4, in Sunday's final of the Tashkent Open.

The 18-year-old Mikaelian, ranked No. 52 in the world, won her first career title. Mikaelian, who defeated Italy's Tathiana Garbin on Saturday, reached the semifinal here last year and made the final at Basel last August.

Poutchek got past Italian Roberta Vinci in the other semifinal. The 23-year-old Poutchek, who is ranked No. 67, reached the semifinals at Budapest in April and was playing in a final for the first time on Sunday.
