Jeff Conine goes on DL

PHILADELPHIA, June 15 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Orioles placed first baseman Jeff Conine on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right hamstring.

Conine suffered the injury after delivering a two-run triple in Friday's 7-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 35-year old Conine, who also has played left field this season, has a .262 average with 10 home runs and a team-leading 45 RBI in 64 games.

To take Conine's place on the roster, the Orioles announced they will purchase the contract of third baseman Jose Leon from Class AAA Rochester. In 67 games with the Red Wings, Leon hit .300 with eight homers and 35 RBI.

Already on the 15-day DL, first baseman David Segui will be transferred to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Leon. Segui, who has two homers and 16 RBI with a .263 average in 26 games this season, was placed on the DL on May 18 and underwent surgery on his left hand three days later.
