Pittsburgh 5, Milwaukee 4

PITTSBURGH, June 9 (UPI) -- Pokey Reese hit a two-run homer to break an eighth-inning tie Sunday, allowing the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-4 victory.

Keith Osik walked with two outs in the eighth, prompting manager Jerry Royster to replace starter Jamey Wright (1-3) with Jose Cabrera. Reese greeted the reliever by belting a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence to give Pittsburgh a 5-3 lead.

Reese, who signed with the Pirates as a free agent in the offseason, went deep for the first time since Aug. 31 for Cincinnati against Pittsburgh.

Chad Hermansen and Kevin Young also homered for the Pirates, who have won three straight games for the first time since a six-game streak from April 15-21.

The Pirates have won their last nine games against the Brewers, including all six this season.

Scott Sauerbeck (2-0) retired all four batters he faced for the win.

Mike Williams earned his 19th save despite allowing a home run to Jose Hernandez in the ninth.
