Phillip Price still leads British Masters

MILTON KEYNES, England, June 1 (UPI) -- Phillip Price shot a 4-under-par 68 on Saturday and holds a one-stroke lead over Ian Poulter after the third round of the British Masters.

A native of Wales, Price edged Poulter for the final spot on the European Ryder Cup team. He again holds a slim lead over the Englishman, despite recording his first bogey in 50 holes on No. 18, and has a three-round score of 15-under 201.

Poulter shot a 67 on Saturday, salvaging a par on the final hole after hitting his tee shot 30 yards right of the fairway.

Poulter is two shots ahead of the rest of the field as Justin Rose, Gary Evans of Britain and Soren Hansen of Denmark are tied for third.

Price is seeking his third European Tour title after two wins at the Portugese Open.

The third player in the final group Sunday will be Rose, a close friend of Poulter who shot a 65 on Saturday. Rose is chasing his first victory in England after two triumphs earlier this year in South Africa.

Evans shot a 66 and Hansen fired a 67 to join the group at 204. Sandy Lyle shot a 65 on Friday but settled for a 70 on Saturday and is part of a group of five golfers six shots off the pace at 207.

Lyle, the winner of the 1985 British Open and the champion of the Masters at Augusta three years, ranks just 201st on the European Tour this season.

Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, who has been hampered by back problems, also is at 207 after firing a 68.
