Plesac traded to Phillies

PHILADELPHIA, May 26 (UPI) -- Dan Plesac, a 40-year-old lefthanded reliever, was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday to the Philadelphia Phillies for righthander Cliff Politte.

Plesac began the season as one of three lefthanders in the Blue Jays' bullpen and reportedly was seeking a chance to finish his career with a contender. After Toronto traded Pedro Borbon Jr. earlier this month, it appeared Plesac would remain with the Blue Jays.

But Plesac and his $2.2 million salary were sent to the Phillies, who have been desperate for bullpen help. Plesac, who joins his sixth organization, is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 19 games for Toronto this season.

Politte, 28, is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 13 relief appearances for Philadelphia. He joins his third organization and may be inserted into the Blue Jays' starting rotation.
