WARSAW, Poland, May 12 (UPI) -- Unseeded Elena Bovina captured her first career title Sunday, defeating top seed Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia in the final of the $170,000 J&S Cup claycourt event.
The 19-year-old Russian cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory. She said she had been building for her first win.
"I've had a wonderful week here, and I've been getting better and better each match," said Bovina, who entered this event with just a 4-9 record this year. "Today's match in the final was definitely the best I've played this week."
Nagyova was denied her ninth WTA title and first since the 2000 Warsaw tournament. She had won just three of 13 matches this season entering this week.
All was not lost for Nagyova, who did team with Jelena Kostanic to capture the doubles title.
