Kansas City 5, Cleveland 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 9 (UPI) -- Joe Randa singled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday night as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 5-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

Stymied by Indians starter Bartolo Colon, the Royals managed just three hits and trailed 3-2 entering the eighth. Kansas City had been 0-19 this season when behind entering the eighth.

After Colon easily retired the first two batters of the inning, Mike Sweeney hit his second homer of the contest to tie it.

Ricardo Rincon (0-1) relieved and gave up a single to Carlos Beltran. David Riske came on for Rincon and Beltran stole second before Randa singled up the middle, giving the Royals a 4-3 lead. Neifi Perez added a run-scoring single later in the inning for some insurance.

A.J. Hinch also homered for the Royals. Entering Thursday, Kansas City had hit 13 homers in 31 games --the fewest in the major leagues.

Royals starter Jeff Suppan (3-4) surrendered three runs and seven hits over eight innings, walking five and striking out seven. Roberto Hernandez struck out two in a perfect ninth for his second save.
