the inning, but burned his old team with a two-out double in the eighth.

Anderson was one of the few veterans that was not traded as Baltimore began its youth movement. He was with the club from 1988 to last season before signing with Cleveland as a free agent Dec. 15.

After Anderson's double, the Orioles appeared to be out of the inning, but Jolbert Cabrera's high chopper bounced over shortstop Mike Bordick's head and gave Cleveland a 5-4 lead.

Russell Branyan, who had struck out in his previous three at-bats, capped the scoring with his sixth home run.

Cleveland starter Ryan Drese (3-3) was staked to 4-0 lead, but gave it all back by the fifth inning. He allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings before Paul Shuey took over.

Baltimore got its first run on Jay Gibbons' solo home run with one out in the fourth. The Orioles thought they had tied it on Jeff Conine's sacrifice fly, which scored Chris Singleton.

However, the play was appealed by the Indians and Singleton was ruled out for leaving the base before Matt Lawton caught the ball.

Shuey allowed a hit in the eighth but struck out two batters. David Riske put two runners on in the ninth but retired Jerry Hairston Jr. to end the game.
