Minnesota 3, Detroit 2

MINNEAPOLIS, May 4 (UPI) -- Cristian Guzman's high chopper up the middle scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday night as the Minnesota Twins

edged the Detroit Tigers, 3-2, to improve to 14-1 at home this year.

It is the best home mark for Minnesota after 15 games in franchise history. The Twins have won six straight overall.

Corey Koskie started the ninth with a single to right field off Fernando Rodney (0-1), who was making his major league debut, and moved up on Dustan Mohr's sacrifice. After pinch hitter A.J. Pierzynski was walked intentionally, Bobby Kielty hit a chopper that shortstop Shane Halter bobbled for an error to load the bases.

Jacque Jones fouled out to catcher Brandon Inge after the ball hit a speaker. But Guzman chopped a 1-0 pitch up the middle and second baseman Damian Jackson had no play after fielding the ball behind the bag.

Mike Jackson (2-1) recorded the final five outs to pick up the victory.

The Tigers erased an early 2-0 deficit on Jose Macias' sacrifice fly in the fifth and Halter's solo homer in the sixth.
