Minnesota 6, Tampa Bay 3

MINNEAPOLIS, April 30 (UPI) -- Torii Hunter set a team record for home runs in April, powering the Minnesota Twins to a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Tuesday night.

Hunter hit a two-run shot off Ryan Rupe to cap a three-run first inning. It was his ninth homer of the season, breaking the mark set by Kent Hrbek in 1982 and matched eight years later by Kirby Puckett.

Hunter also ended the month with 39 hits, tying the team record shared by Puckett and Paul Molitor.

The Twins added three runs in the second to give starter Kyle Lohse all the support he needed.

Lohse (2-1) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, walking two and striking out three.

Eddie Guardado retired the side in order in the ninth for his league-leading 10th save.

Rupe (3-2) yielded six runs and eight hits in five innings.
