DETROIT, April 26 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers Friday placed first baseman Dmitri Young on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with a hernia.

Acquired in an offseason trade with Cincinnati, Young is batting .296 with one homer and four RBI in 14 games. The Tigers did not disclose how long Young is expected to be sidelined.

The Tigers on Friday also recalled outfielder Craig Monroe from Class AAA Toledo of the International League and righthander Seth Greisinger from Class AA Erie of the Eastern League. Outfielder Andres Torres was optioned to Toledo.

Sidelined since 1999 after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on his pitching elbow, Greisinger will start Friday night against Minnesota.
