Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
METAIRIE, La., April 24 (UPI) -- The New Orleans Saints Wednesday agreed to terms with cornerback Ken Irvin on a
one-year contract.
Irvin started 50 games over the last four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, but lost the right cornerback job to rookie Nate Clements last season.
"We wanted to add a player who has been tested in the NFL and Ken has stood up to the league's best wide receivers," Saints general manager Randy Mueller said. "He has played both left and right cornerback and in the nickel and dime packages, so this is a good addition for us."
A fourth-round pick of the Bills in 1995, Irvin was a key performer in nickel and dime passing situations and a special teams standout in his first three seasons. He took over as the starter at left cornerback in 1998 and posted career-highs with 65 tackles and 25 passes defensed.
Irvin shifted to right cornerback in 2000 and tied his career high with two interceptions. Last season, he started four games and finished with 38 tackles, three passes defensed and an interception.
