Chicago 11, Detroit 8

CHICAGO, April 21 (UPI) -- Pinch-hitter Ray Durham's two-run single snapped a tie in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday as the Chicago White Sox outslugged the Detroit Tigers, 11-8, for their sixth win in seven games.

The game took place in a steady drizzle with the temperatures hovering in the low 40s.

Durham's bases-loaded single gave Chicago a 10-8 lead and a third run scored when the ball got past left fielder Bobby Higginson for an error.

The White Sox took two of three in the series, rebounding from Friday night's loss to score 23 runs over the final two games. They posted a 12-5 victory Saturday and have scored at least 10 runs in four of their last seven contests.

After spotting Detroit a 3-0 lead in the first, the White Sox knocked out Jose Lima by erupting for eight runs in the bottom half. Lima surrendered all eight runs while retiring only two batters.

But the Chicago offense was shut down by the Tigers' bullpen until the White Sox came alive again in the seventh against Jose Paniagua (0-1).

Frank Thomas led off with a single and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Magglio Ordonez walked and stole second, forcing the Tigers to bring in the infield. After Paul Konerko popped up, the Tigers elected to walk Jose Valentin to load the bases. The move backfired when Durham lined a 1-1 pitch into left field.
