Green Bay takes Florida State receiver

NEW YORK, April 20 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers used a first-round pick on a Florida State player for the second straight year Saturday, taking receiver Javon Walker 20th overall in the NFL Draft.

Hoping to improve their passing game, the Packers moved up eight spots in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers swapped first-round picks with Seattle and also sent a second-round choice to the Seahawks with Green Bay getting a fifth-round pick in return.

The Packers, who chose Seminoles defensive end Jamal Reynolds in the 2001 draft, have been looking for more targets for quarterback Brett Favre. The selection of Walker could end the Green Bay tenure of Antonio Freeman, who so far has refused to take a pay cut.

The 6-2 Walker led Florida State with 45 receptions for 944 yards and seven touchdowns last season and captured second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors. He made a lasting impression with his Gator Bowl performance against Virginia Tech, catching four passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Walker also played baseball in the Florida Marlins' organization.
