BURBANK, Calif., April 19 (UPI) -- The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, who finished last in the Pacific Division, fired General Manager Pierre Gauthier Friday.
The Mighty Ducks finished 13th in the Western Conference with a 29-42-8-3 record and were a distant 25 points out of a playoff berth.
Gauthier completed his fourth season as general manager and the Ducks failed to make the playoffs the last three years.
It was his second stint with the Mighty Ducks after serving as assistant general manager from 1993 to 1995. During his first tenure, the Ducks signed star left wing Paul Kariya.
"Pierre was instrumental to the Mighty Ducks during his tenure as assistant general manager and for four seasons as team president and general manager," said Paul Pressler, chairman of Walt Disney's Park and Resorts Division. "With a solid defense in place and goaltending that ranks among the NHL's best, I believe this is the right time to make this move in order to accelerate the process of becoming a Stanley Cup contender."
The 48-year-old Gauthier was general manager of the Ottawa Senators before coming to Anaheim.
