TORONTO, April 10 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi hit his first two homers for the New York Yankees Wednesday night, but he was upstaged by Felipe Lopez, who snapped a tie with a solo shot of his own in the seventh inning as the Toronto Blue Jays snapped a five-game slide streak with a 9-7 victory over the Yankees than ended New York's seven-game winning streak.
Giambi, baseball's most prominent free agent signing over the winter, entered the game hitting .207, but he gave the Yankees an early lead with a two-run homer in the first. The Yankees scored two more times in the inning on consecutive RBI doubles by Robin Ventura and Rondell White.
Vernon Wells halved the deficit with a line drive home run to left field in the second inning before Giambi made it 5-2 with a home run in the third.
The Blue Jays got to within 5-4 when Carlos Delgado doubled and scored when Jose Cruz Jr. reached on Robin Ventura's fielding error, chasing New York starter Andy Pettitte.
Toronto increased its lead to 7-5 two innings later against Ramiro Mendoza, who was making his first appearance of the season.
But Toronto starter Brandon Lyon couldn't hold it, surrendering a game-tying double to Jorge Posada in the seventh.
The Blue Jays went ahead for good when Lopez hit a two-out solo home run off Ted Lilly (0-1).
