
MEMPHIS, April 9 (UPI) -- Pau Gasol is doing his best to turn the Rookie of the Year race into a runaway.
Gasol recorded 19 points, eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists as the Memphis Grizzlies ended a nine-game losing streak against the Denver Nuggets with a 97-86 victory Tuesday night.
Gasol added four blocks as the Grizzlies rejected a
franchise-record 16 shot attempts.
Stromile Swift added 20 points off the bench, including a three-point play with 7:14 left that gave the Grizzlies their biggest lead, 94-71.
Gasol scored eight of his points in the second quarter, when Memphis shot 72 percent (13-of-18) from the field en route to a 61-49 advantage.
Juwan Howard scored 18 points and Voshon Lenard added 12 for the Nuggets, who fell to 7-32 on the road.
