TARZANA, Calif., April 5 (UPI) -- Korean star Se Ri Pak shot a 4-under-par 68 at the El Caballero Country Club and grabbed the lead over Wendy Doolan and Tonya Gill after one round of the The Office Depot -- a tournament hosted by Hall of Famer Amy Alcott.

"I was sick for a few days and didn't know if I would be able to play in the tournament," said Pak, who is participating in just her third event of the season. "I was hopeful I could play and every day I got much better. I woke up today and felt great, so I was happy to play."

Pak is one of the few players feeling great after deceiving greens took their toll on the field. However, one of the 10 who broke par was defending champion Annika Sorenstam of Sweden. The world's best woman golfer negotiated El Caballero at 1-under 71 and was among six players who trail Pak by three strokes.

A three-shot deficit is nothing for Sorenstam, who last year rallied from 10 shots down at this event and defeated another Korean, Mi Hyun Kim, in a playoff for the biggest comeback in LPGA Tour history. It was the fourth straight victory for Sorenstam, who has won twice in four tournament this season and is coming off a triumph at the Nabisco Championship.

Doolan and Gill were a shot out of the lead at 3-under 69 while Dawn Coe-Jones and Kristal Parker shot 70.
