Seattle 7; Chi. White Sox 6

SEATTLE, April 4 (UPI) -- Bret Boone's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night scored Carlos Guillen with the winning run as the Seattle Mariners took the rubber game of their three-game series with the Chicago White Sox, 7-6.

Seattle trailed, 6-3, entering the ninth and faced the prospect of rallying against closer Keith Foulke, who had converted 15 straight and 27 of 28 save opportunities.

But Guillen drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single and Ichiro Suzuki knotted the contest with a run-scoring hit.

With runners at second and third, Boone grounded a single into right field for the game-winner.

Seattle lost just six series last season, when it won an American League-record 116 games. After dropping the season opener, Seattle burned Chicago's bullpen in each of the last two contests.

Foulke (0-1) retired just two batters and was tagged for four runs and six hits.

Ryan Franklin (1-0), who held Chicago in check in the top of the ninth, picked up the victory.
