LAKELAND, Fla., March 30 (UPI) -- Bobby Higginson and Jacob Cruz each had three hits and drove in two runs Saturday as the Detroit Tigers pasted the Kansas City Royals, 14-1.
Jack Hannahan homered and drove in three runs for Detroit, which pounded out 20 hits and led 11-1 after five innings.
Jose Lima started for the Tigers and survived three rough innings. He allowed five hits and two walks before giving way to Matt Miller, who tossed a scoreless fourth.
Danny Patterson, Terry Pearson and Juan Acevedo tossed one inning apiece.
Kansas City starter Dan Reichert was hammered for eight runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jason Grimsley also was ineffective, allowing three runs and retiring just two batters.
Raul Ibanez drove in the lone run for the Royals.
