NAGANO, Japan, March 22 (UPI) -- Russia's Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh captured gold in the ice dancing portion of the World Figure Skating Championships Friday.

The Russians beat Canada's Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz and Israel's Galit Chait and Serguei Sakhnovski. The Russian pair won the silver medal at last month's Olympics.

Judges rewarded Lobacheva and Averbukh with 5.8s and 5.9s for a dance that was dedicated to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
