UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 21 (UPI) -- Chris Osgood stopped Markus Naslund on a third-period penalty shot as the New York Islanders foiled the Vancouver Canucks' bid for a perfect road trip, 3-2.
Looking to complete a 6-0 trip, Vancouver pulled within 3-2 with 9:17 remaining when former Islander Todd Bertuzzi beat Osgood. Just 38 seconds later, Osgood preserved the lead by stoning the Canucks' leading scorer.
Mariusz Czerkawkski and Brad Isbister each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who stopped a three-game losing streak and moved two points ahead of New Jersey for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
Naslund collected a goal and an assist for Vancouver, which is one point behind Dallas for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
