South Alabama coach to resign

MOBILE, Ala., March 18 (UPI) -- It was reported Monday that South Alabama coach Bob Weltlich will resign this week.

In five years at South Alabama, Weltlich posted an 81-65 record, but the Jaguars struggled to a 7-21 mark this season. Under Weltlich, the Jaguars advanced to the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship game in three of his first four seasons and made the NCAA Tournament in 1998.

Weltlich's coaching career began at Army under Bob Knight in 1970. He has also coached at Mississippi, Texas and Florida International.
