Pittsburgh 8, Tampa Bay 5

BRADENTON, Fla., March 15 (UPI) -- Chad Hermansen doubled twice and homered Friday, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to an 8-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Hermansen drove in two runs and scored twice, giving the Pirates an 8-2 lead going into the ninth inning. Aramis Ramirez and Jack Wilson also homered for Pittsburgh.

Kip Wells picked up the win, giving up just one hit while walking one and striking out one over three scoreless innings.

Attempting a comeback from shoulder surgery, Wilson Alvarez surrendered four runs over three innings and took the loss.

Kevin Sefcik and Toby Hall hit solo homers for the Devil Rays.
