Yale 67, Rutgers 65

PISCATAWAY, N.J., March 14 (UPI) -- Edwin Draughan scored 15 points Thursday night as Yale surprised Rutgers, 67-65, in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament.

The Ivy League runner-up, Yale (21-10) took the lead midway through the second half and never let go, setting up a second-round matchup with either Dayton or Tennessee Tech.

Rutgers (18-12) was considered a favorite after a surprising season in the Big East Conference, but ended its campaign with a rare home loss.

Mike Sherrod scored 15 points for the Scarlet Knights, who had won seven straight games at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
