Dolphins waive two veterans

MIAMI, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins eased the salary cap weight on defensive tackle Tim Bowens' contract Thursday and waived both safety Brock Marion and injury-plagued receiver O.J. McDuffie.

Bowens was to have counted for more than $8 million on the salary cap in 2002 and was briefly waived before signing a new three-year contract with two option years at undisclosed terms.

"We're thrilled to have re-signed Tim," Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said. "He has been an integral part of the success that the Dolphins defense has achieved, and we're glad that we were able to reach an agreement to keep him in Miami."

Marion led the Dolphins with five interceptions last season and McDuffie missed the entire 2001 campaign following toe surgery.
