TEMPE, Ariz., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Donaldo Mendez doubled in the top of the eighth inning and scored the go-ahead run on Trenidad Hubbard's sacrifice fly Wednesday as the San Diego Padres edged the Anaheim Angels, 3-2, in the Cactus League opener for both teams.

Jason Boyd earned the victory with a scoreless seventh and J.J. Trujillo recorded the final three outs for the save. Mickey Callaway took the loss, allowing the run in the eighth in his only inning.

Kevin Eberhein went three for three for the Padres while Nathan Hale was two for two for the Angels.

San Diego starter Cliff Bartosh allowed two runs and three hits over two innings. Six Padres' relievers combined for seven scoreless innings, giving up seven hits.

Anaheim's Matt Wise yielded one run and four hits in two frames. The Angels also used seven pitchers.
