BOGOTA, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Top seed Cristina Torrens-Valero of Spain easily advanced to the semifinals of the $467,000 Copa
Colsanitas claycourt event Friday.
Seeking her third career win, Torrens-Valero cruised past fifth-seed Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay, 6-2, 6-1, and will face Colombia's Fabiola Zuluaga in Saturday's semifinals.
Zuluaga upset defending third seed and defending champion Paola Suarez of Argentina, 6-2, 6-4.
Torrens-Valero earned her last victory at Sopot last year and climbed from 94th to 32nd in the world rankings at the end of 2001.
Also gaining semifinal berths were Colombia's Catalina Castano and Slovakia's Katarina Srebotnik. Castano defeated Argentina's Maria Emilia Salerni, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, and Srebotnik got past France's Celine Beigbeder, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
