ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Kyle Hornsby had 17 points,
hitting all five shots from 3-point range, and Jeffrey Newton
and Jarrad Odle also tallied 17 as No. 24 Indiana posted a 75-55
rout of Michigan in a Big Ten Conference matchup Sunday.
The victory moved Indiana into a first-place tie atop the Big
Ten standings with Ohio State.
Hornsby nailed his fifth 3-pointer with 7:26 to play as the
Hoosiers (17-8, 9-3 Big Ten) effectively secured the victory,
taking a commanding 60-42 lead.
Newton scored five points during Indiana's 13-2 run early in the
first half. Dane Fife, a former Michigan High School Player of
the Year, capped the burst, making a basket from beyond the arc
and opening a 21-10 advantage with 8:52 to go until halftime.
Chris Young led the Wolverines (10-14, 5-8) with 18 points, but
Michigan never reduced the deficit to fewer than seven points
and suffered a third straight defeat.
Jared Jeffries, Indiana's leading scorer, returned to the lineup
after missing Wednesday's game with Wisconsin due to a sprained
ankle. He contributed four points, making 2-of-3 from the field,
and a pair of steals in just 18 minutes of action.
