WAILUKU, Hawaii, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- University of Hawaii quarterback Nick Rolovich, capping an outstanding season with another big day, threw three touchdown passes in the first half to lead the South to a 45-28 victory over the North in Saturday's Hula Bowl.
Rolovich completed 10-of-18 passes for 171 yards and the three scores, including a pair to Oregon tight end Justin Peelle.
Rolovich, one of eight players from Hawaii in the game, took over for an injured Timmy Chang in the midst of the season and had a huge finish.
He capped the regular season by throwing for eight touchdowns and 543 yards, both school records, in a 72-45 rout of Brigham Young on December 8. The game was his third straight 500-yard effort.
The Hula Bowl also marked former Florida coach Steve Spurrier's final college game. Spurrier, the new coach of the Washington Redskins, was an assistant for the South.
Rolovich sat out most of the second half and Valdosta State's Dusty Bonner, a former Kentucky quarterback, also threw for a score. Georgia's Vernon Hayes rushed for 84 yards and one touchdowen for the South.
Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch of Nebraska had a miserable game, going 4-of-11 for 45 yards and three interceptions.
The North was led by Toledo's Chester Taylor, who rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns.
