JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Jacksonville Jaguars special teams coordinator Frank Gansz announced his retirement Thursday after 24 years of coaching in the NFL.
John Bonamego, the Jaguars' assistant special teams coach the last three seasons, was named as his replacement.
Gansz spent 13 seasons coaching on the college level before moving to the NFL in 1978 with the San Francisco 49ers. He was coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1987-88, posting an 8-22-1 record.
"Frank Gansz leaves the game as one of the best special teams coaches in football," Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin said. "He has had a reputation as an excellent teacher and communicator and I appreciate the energy and professionalism he brought with us when he joined our staff two years ago.
Gansz spent three seasons with the St. Louis Rams before joining the Jaguars.
