McCarver joins Giants broadcast team

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Tim McCarver, the lead analyst for baseball telecasts on Fox Sports, has been added to the San

Francisco Giants' broadcasting team.

The Giants announced Wednesday that McCarver will team with Mike Krukow on approximately 25 elecasts next season on flagship station KTVU.

McCarver has called 12 of the last 15 World Series and has been the lead analyst for Fox since joining the network in 1996.

McCarver spent the last three seasons working local broadcasts for the New York Yankees, but was not retained when the Yankees moved their broadcasts for the newly formed YES Network. He

also has called games for the Philadelphia Phillies (1980-82) and New York Mets (1983-89).

The Giants had been searching for a broadcaster since Ted Robinson left to join the Mets' radio and television broadcast team.

A major leaguer for 21 seasons, McCarver finished with a .271 lifetime average and 97 homers in 1,909 games. The former catcher was a member of World Championship teams with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1964 and 1967.
