Chicago 2, Pittsburgh 0

CHICAGO, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Jocelyn Thibault made 22 saves and the top line of Tony Amonte, Alexei Zhamnov and Kyle Calder combined for six points Sunday night as the Chicago Blackhawks registered their second straight shutout, a 2-0 blanking of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Chicago extended its winning streak to a season-high six games and has lost just once in the last 10 contests. The Blackhawks have held opponents to a goal or less in five of the last six games.

Chicago had not posted back-to-back shutouts since 1-0 blankings of Montreal and Boston on March 19-22, 1998.

Thibault faced no more than nine shots in any period and deflected a low wrist shot by rookie Kris Beech midway through the third as he held on for his fourth shutout of the season and 25th of his career.

The Blackhawks broke a scoreless deadlock just 3:24 into the game on Calder's 14th goal. Zhamnov doubled the lead at 3:12 of the second, with Amonte picking up assists on both goals.

Still awaiting the return of All-Star center Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh lost for the fourth time in five games. The Penguins have been shut out three times in the last nine games and eight times this season.
