Johansson, Pavel advance at Tata

CHENNAI, India, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Second seed Thomas Johansson and No. 4 Andrei Pavel reached the quarterfinals Wednesday at the Tata Open.

Johansson, from Sweden, needed three sets to

rally past Olivier Rochus of Belgium, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in this $400,000 hardcourt tournament.

He will play the winner of the second-round match between Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan and Russian Andrei Stoliarov..

Pavel cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Italalian qualifier Stefano Galvani to reach the final eight.

The 27-year-old Romanian awaits the winner of the encounter between sixth-seeded Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia and Spain's Alex

Calatrava.
