ADELAIDE, Australia, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Thomas Enqvist and Greg Rusedski moved Monday into the second round Monday of the AAPT tennis Championships.
Enqvist downed former world No. 1 Marcelo Rios of Chile, 6-0, 6-3. The third seed from Sweden won here in 2000 and reached the final last year. He failed to win a title last season, but was a semifinalist in Barcelona, Vienna and Stockholm.
Rusedski, the British No. 6 seed, posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Jacobo Diaz of Spain.
The two other seeds in action Monday struggled as No. 7 Andreas Vinciguerra of Sweden fell to Alberto Martin of Spain, 6-3, 6-4, and eighth seed Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia outlasted American Michael Russell, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (15-13).
Scott Draper of Australia crushed Andre Sa of Brazil, 6-1, 6-2; France's Jerome Golmard defeated Australian Wayne Arthurs, 6-4, 6-0; and Michael Llodra of France beat Wayne Ferreira, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
