TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Kenny Walker scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half Monday when No. 19 Alabama, feasting on a Mideastern Conference opponent before starting Southeastern Conference play, built a 22-point lead en route to a 76-52 victory over Florida A&M.
The Crimson Tide wasted little time establishing its dominance, racing to a 15-5 lead in the first 9 ½ minutes and inreasing the advantage to 42-20 at halftime.
Rod Grizzard had 14 points and Terrance Meade added 12 as Alabama (11-2) shot 58 percent from the field. The Crimson Tide was coming off a 79-76 victory over Notre Dame last Thursday in the Sugar Bowl Classic.
Demarkis Wilkins scored 16 points and Sonny Tudeme added 13 for Florida A&M (1-9), which suffered its seventh straight loss.
The Rattlers last played an SEC team on November 19 and suffered a 92-55 defeat to Mississippi State. The lone win for Florida A&M this season was a 98-77 victory over fellow MEAC school Bethune Cookman on November 24.
Alabama will play Bethune Cookman on Thursday before beginning conference play Saturday against Louisiana State.
