NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Marcus Hatten scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half and keyed a late run as St. John's rallied Saturday for a 72-60 win over No. 20 Wake Forest.
A junior college transfer who as emerged as the Red Storm's leading scorer, Hatten was held to 13 points on 3-of-10 shooting in a win over St. Francis of New York on Thursday.
But he bounced back Saturday, giving St. John's the lead for good, 56-55, on a basket with 5:19 left. That triggered a 14-3 spurt that included a pair of 3-pointers and 10 points by Hatten, who played at Tallahassee Community College in Florida last season.
Sharif Fordham capped the run with a basket that gave the Red Storm a 65-58 lead with 1:42 left.
St. John's (7-2), playing a ranked opponent for the first time this season, won for the seventh time in eight games.
Anthony Glover added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Darius Songaila (8-3) had 17 points for Wake Forest, which was playing at Madison Square Garden, the home court of St. John's, for the third time this season. The Demon Deacons split a pair of games here in the Preseason NIT in November.
Wake Forest lost to an unranked team for the first time this season.
