EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Jani Hurme made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season and Mike Fisher tipped in the only goal midway through the second period Saturday to give the Ottawa Senators a 1-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Fisher won a draw back to defenseman Wade Redden at the left point and skated through the slot before tipping Redden's shot over goaltender Martin Brodeur's glove as a power play expired.

The goal was Fisher's career-high ninth. He had just seven in 60 games last season.

More than seven minutes after giving Ottawa the lead, Fisher instigated a fight with John Madden and received a major penalty and 10-minute misconduct.

Hurme, the starting goaltender for Finland at the 2002 Olympics, recorded his fourth career shutout and first since Oct. 9 at Carolina for his eight victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Brodeur had his shutout streak against Ottawa snapped at 119 minutes, 31 seconds. He made 21 saves and dropped to 14-13-5.

Ottawa has scored 109 goals for second-best total in the NHL, trailing Chicago (113). The Senators are third in the Northeast Division behind Toronto and Boston.
