MIAMI, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Wally Szczerbiak scored 22 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves continued the franchise's best opening Tuesday night with an 80-73 victory over Pat Riley's Miami Heat, who have lost six straight games.
Terrell Brandon scored 19 points and Rasho Nesterovic added 16 and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves (9-1), who saw star forward Kevin Garnett limited to 10 points, were held 24 points below their league-leading average and still won rather easily.
The Heat (2-8) are off to their worst start since their expansion season of 1988-89. Their current skid is the longest of Riley's illustrious coaching career, which includes four NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and a trip to the 1994 NBA Finals with the New York Knicks.
Former Timberwolf LaPhonso Ellis and Eddie House scored 17 points each for Miami, which has lost six in a row for the first time since March 24-30, 1994, when Kevin Loughery coached the club.
